    Everyone can hoop!

    Emilie Joy Rowell

    Professional hoop dancer.

    Emilie has been teaching hoop dance for over 10 years. She first picked it up in 2009 after seeing Grace Jones rock the hoop on stage; she realised life was missing something circular and started learning. Since then she’s been hooked on hoop and has performed in large choreographed acts as well as solo and smaller group shows across the UK, and was in the final 10 of Hooping Idol 2014.

     

    She’s taught over 1,000 people to hoop at classes, festivals and workshops including pensioners, policemen, toddlers and bankers. Interested in hooping as a release and a challenge; a tool for creativity and health.

     

    She's also a fully qualified yoga teacher, so you know you're in safe hands.

    You’ve got some experience with tricks and moving with the hoop, but want to develop more confidence in flowing between moves and developing dynamic dance.

    I’m here to help you feel more comfortable and confident in the hoop.

     

    Over the first 4 weeks of this course we’ll learn some choreography together, looking to how understanding grip switches and directional movement can help you piece moves together and work with mood, lyrics and movement.

     

    The following 3 sessions are all about taking those idea forwards into putting together a routine that is all yours. Choose a piece of music and I will help you devise a short sequence of moves to it.

    Learn fun, simple hoop dance moves and routines

     
    Get playful, add flow and level up your basic skills in a supportive group.

    This 7 week course will teach you new moves, how to add them together to dance together.

    REQUIREMENTS: Basic on and off-body hooping and a desire to learn more.

    This session aims to use the hoop as a tool to explore how we show up in life. No athletic or skill requirement, but participants should to feel reasonably resourced (i.e. supported and not going through any big life stuff at the moment).

     

    This is a choose-your-own-adventure workshop with options for partner work, play and exploration in leader / follower relationships and how we show the world our hoopy-selves.

     

    Explore your tendencies to be pretty, precise, in control, silly or perhaps to not be seen. You don't need to be a super-hooper for this, all are welcome.
    The start of the session will give you a chance to get a feel for the hoop & there are no expectations.

     

    Hoops are provided - wear something comfortable that you can move freely in.

    Are 2 hoops better than one?!

    SATURDAY 14th JANUARY - 10.30am - 12pm

    This 90 minute session will cover a few of the basic twin hoop moves. They are a proper workout for your arms and you'll possibly be able to feel new neural pathways mapping their way through your wonderful brain*. There's time to take things at your own pace and a proper good warm up and stretch out so you can take care of yourself duing the session.

    Hoops are provided for the class.

    Laugh, dance and supercharge your Tuesdays learning to hula hoop; feel-good fitness to pep up your week.

     

    Come and join us for this fun, challenging and rewarding hula hoop dance course. We'll be focusing on a different part of the body each week, classes are gently guided and there's time for individual questions and development. You'll use muscles you didn't know you had and give your brain a workout - all to a great soundtrack.

  • Elements

    A hoop dance flow workshop suitable for all, using our relationship with the hoop to explore movement and emotion. This workshop is inspired by Embodied Yoga Principles and uses simple exercises to look at our patterns with the hoop and ways of expanding repertoire by balancing our 'elements'.

    As well as a hoop dancer, Emilie is a qualified yoga teacher and EYP teacher. This system uses yoga, archetypes and self-enquiry to explore the way we approach life. It's fun, social, deep and practical.
